Cloth wipes review

Before my youngest ds was born, I think cloth wipes would be a great idea since I’m going to wash my cloth diapers anyways. But when I’m really doing the diaper change routine, I found that it doesn’t make much sense for me.

I use flushable cloth diaper liner on top of the stay dry liner to allow an easy cleanup for poop. My diapers are virtually free of poop when I do my laundry, so why would I want to put the cloth wipes all stained with seedy poop into my washer?

So, what I ended up doing, is to clean up the poop with the disposable Huggies Natural wipes (I know it’s not truly natural, but at least it’s trying), and then use the cloth wipe to dry up my baby’s bum before putting on the cloth diaper. I bought the cloth wipe solution cubes before my baby was born, so I still haven’t got a chance to try them yet, but at least I’m not wasting the cloth wipes.

The cloth wipes I bought are the AMP natural color hemp fleece and the Bummis unbleached cotton flannel. They both cost about $1 each. The AMP wipes are smaller but thicker, while the Bummis wipes are bigger, but slightly more expensive. With the hemp, it is required to pre-wash it 5-6 times before use as there’s natural oil on the fabric, so it’s more work at the beginning. Also I found that the fleece wears out pretty easily, and the AMP cloth always curl up after a wash, so I favor the Bummis cotton flannel.
